The biggest innovation fair, which lasted 3 days and brought the biggest disruptive players in the world to Las Vegas, ended with anxiety. Many conceptual projects awaiting the arrival of 5G to revolutionize the analog universe. The capture, processing and analysis of data for Machine Learning (still in its initial phase) should feed the ecosystem in the coming years and accelerate a frightening change.
Between lectures and exhibitions, the city is dominated by the fair, which is divided into 3 areas. Tech East and its Exhibition Center is the stage for hardware aimed at automobiles, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, drones and gaming while Tech West, located at the Convention Center and hotels on the Strip, brings the latest in software solutions for cities, homes , smart offices and products awarded at the Innovation Award, promoted by the Consumer Technology Association. The newest area is focused on advertising and entertainment in a space for lectures and networking for brands, technology and media, located at the Aria hotel, one of the newest in the city.
Several parallel conferences have spread across Vegas addressing health, IOT, mobility, digital Hollywood, international retail, sports, government and more and the new areas created in 2018 are dedicated to packaging design, sports, sleep and children’s health.
The trend this year was the integration of gadgets into solutions, exposing experiences and not just products. Alliances between large companies like Samsung, Intel, Volvo, Toyota, Bosch, Google, Amazon, L’Oréal and small and / or accelerated startups have brought magical mirrors that analyze and correct skin and hair. Drones went from amusement accessories to art creators and people carriers. Devices that monitor health and offer solutions for cancer and Parkinson’s were introduced and automatic fleets to solve logistical and storage situations became public knowledge. Smart clothes that generate biometrics data and “talk” to washing, drying and folding machines also made the sensation at the fair.
In the area of marketing, video was widely discussed. Capture and exposure quality in both Los Angeles studios and Gaming. Retailing with the help of Virtual Reality changes consumption habits by companies like Ikea, where cell phones can already “rehearse” the exchange of furniture or wall colors, or fashion companies with overlapping clothes and makeup in selfies in the best style “Clueless”.
Some funny and award-winning releases diverted attention from more serious issues like smart toilets that open and close on their own, airbag for bikers, mobile saunas, pet robots for company, helmets that accelerate brain waves, portable electric bikes with a capacity of 80km per hour with the possibility to be dispatched on airlines and more.
One of the solutions that went unnoticed in the midst of all the glamor of major launches and I believe it will bring a great revolution in communication is the integration of several players working on the integration of global companies. Google translate modifies the algorithm and starts to contextualize the translations, headsets do simultaneous translation without the need for a human being and software with tutorials on cultural differences reduces the distance between countries.
Investors and onlookers can, using the tools launched at the event, discover trends, acquire software, develop prototypes with their own 3D machines exposed, define packaging, find creative distribution solutions with Amazon and Google, and even create advertising campaigns and purchase media with Spotify, Turner and Facebook.
In the exponential world we live in, we are the architects of the future so what happens in Vegas does not necessarily need to stay in Vegas.
